Yes, of course the AC1 has a governor. They can be fixed speed for generators as well as variable speed. These are widely used in the US military on heaters and such - by the thousands! That is a high-speed unit (typical 3600 rpm) though, and quite out of character with most of the rest of the Lister diesels.

Quite correct DG, as the A range engines (AA1, AB1, AC1, AC2, AD1, and the water cooled equivalents)  were one of the few Petter designed engines, that Lister Petter continued to manufacture after the merger of the two companies.

To my knowledge the only other engine design to also continue been manufactured was the PH (which was so successful that Lister Petter are now restarting production again). This is the engine that the Petteriod clones were derived from.

This is a series 1 AC1 engine, as it is indirect injection. Later series 2 engines are direct injection, this was done in the main to improve the exhaust emissions so as to comply with EU legislation.
