Fuel filter upgrade
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:09:24 PM »
For along time I've wanted a better fuel filter than the stock unit that came with the Listeroid. However it had to be a nice neat job with a minimum of hose and connections. I also kind of like the stock chrome fuel line. Here's the results.

That is a good looking filter install Tom!

Parker/Racor makes a number of small fuel filters with water agglomerator like that... some have sensors for an alarm panel in case of water entering the system.
Good stuff!

All of my small diesels have those....I spent lots of time on ebay collecting them....The filters can be had in different microns levels also.

Fantastic.  What kind of line is that?  Chrome plated brake line?  Is it "off the shelf", or something custom built?

That was the factory line from Ashwamegh. It's chrome steel and fortunately it is soft enough to make a double flare on it. Ashwamegh likes to pimp their roids with the chrome fuel lines, push rods, breather cover, lock screw for the decompression release and valve cover knob. I'm sure it makes more than "common" roids power with all that chrome.  ;)

We frequently use 110A and 120APS models.

It's the 120as kit that comes with the housing, 2 - 2 micron filter elements and a wrench for $112.83 on ebay. It came with hose fittings to, but they went in the brass fittings bucket.

I'm shocked you did not want to use a "cotton sock" based filter, with a rusty metal internal spring, cast-in-dirt iron housings and rope based seals. What could be better than that??

My engine came with a wide strip of leather which had a bunch of small holes poked through the material, sort of like multiple stabs with the point of an icepick, all of this was wrapped around an old coke can held in place by some kind of wire wrap. Good enough for India export I guess.

Compared to what some describe, my roid must have come with a deluxe filter. There was actually a cartridge in there with who knows what for a spec. I tried to find replacements, but no go. It looked paper and when they get wet they disintegrate, so since I'm already on my "spare" IP I figured it was worth the investment. Especially since questionable "fuels" are frequently used.

So you got the upgrade of cardboard or newspaper wrapped around your fuel filter coke can?

Wow those are nice filter units, my experiance with Parker is the name goes on nothing but top notch qualty.

As for the originals they seem to put in whatever is handy when the engine is assembled? I have many "eliements" in my collection, (poorly made) sneaky snakes, rotten paper, screen door screen wrapped up and tossed in the can, even nothing at all.

;D ;DFuels must be exceptionaly clean in India?? ;D ;D

Well it's probably prefiltered through the sand filter in the Crankcase.
