Genset problems
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:13:52 AM »
Greetings all
I recently imported a 12/1 Powerline listeroid.  Attached it to a 10,000KW ST gen head.  Belt driven
!000 RPM on Engine 1800 RPM gen.
what kind of power should i be expecting from this unit?
what is the best place for the drive belts on these Lister,  on the flywheel or other pulley?
lots of questions not many answers.
have been playing with this set for about three months about ready to scrap the project and sell out.
Help

Welcome to the forum! This is the place to get your answers!

A 12 hp prime mover will pull about 6kW with all other losses and inefficiencies included.

The serpentine belt (micro-v) arrangement on the flywheels is the best way to go.

In general you an expect 1 KW for every 2 engine HP so you should be looking at around 6KW.  On 220 about 27 amps or 54 on 110, again all figures approximate. Driving the head with the flywheel rim and a serpetine belt is popular. Pulleys for the heads are NLA as far as I know and must be made locally.

No worries!

The pulleys are available presently in Canada (source is India via PowerAnand)... George B. is also working on getting them produced again (hopefully in the USA).

The serpentine belts are great because they are easy to setup with an idler/tensioner to eliminate much of the belt slippage and maintenance headaches.

We will stock when the supply gets sorted.

You can get a commercial multigrooved pulley with a Browning Hub. Use a standard commercial multigrooved belt run off the rim of the flywheel. The custom made multigroove pulleys are usually cut to use automotive multigroove belts, which are a little cheaper.

Hi macgyvermike, welcome to the forum!  Would you like to explain the problems that have discouraged you with your setup?  Most of the possible problems have been worked out by the members here.  Have you read this forum in depth and not found answers to your problems?  Setting up a Listeroid system is sort of a hobby more than a turn key project for sure.  I hate to admit that I think I've got better service from a $400 3600rpm 5KW set than I've got from my 6-1 ST5 during power outages but I'm not done playing yet.  In the long run I'm sure a co-gen setup with the Listeroid will give me satisfaction.  Many factors at play  :-\ here!    Leland

slight correction... George is not going back into supply business on these pulleys. We are bringing in a shipment soon though.
