Sadly I did not take any photos of my C-172 before I sold it, however I'll never forget the N number.  Every now and then I look it up in the FAA records, it is still located in New Mexico.

fuelfarmer, Gyro's are soooo neat! I've been watching them for years. The technology and ammenities are becoming way more advanced. I love the safety of the concept.

Did you like yours?

OKfarmer, I had a lot of fun with the gyro after I learned to fly the thing. It had a Benson style airframe with an A65 engine. The biggest problem was that it had only one seat. My wife told me she did not mind if I flew, but I had to take her or the kids along because she did not want to raise the kids by herself.

When I was a teenager I worked at an FBO in Louisville, a guy kept a McCulloch J-2 tied down at Bowman.  I only saw it flown a couple times, it was loud when he ran up the rotor prior to takeoff.

Another pilot here, soloed 1983 when I was 17.... seems like such a short time ago!
As far as lifting your motor, I put a lifting strap over each end of crankshaft, then choke it with a ratchet strap around the head. Keeps things from getting "entertaining"

Hey All,

Took the family on a week vacation so I've been out of pocket and NOT working on the 8/1. But I HAVE been thinking a lot while driving. I've come up with a few scenarios I may run by you all either within this thread or start another. Should I keep it all here? Or start another?

Gonna attempt to post a pic or two so here goes:

Did an air filter mod tonight after we got home.  I stopped at a NAPA while the fam was doing something else on vacation and picked up these pieces:
A Filter

A piece of all thread, a coupler nut, and a new wing nut.

Ground out the old oil bath piece and sanded and painted.

I'll get you a finished pic tomorrow.

All for now,
OKFarmer

New topic = new thread. I believe one of the problems here is keeping like discussions together and on topic.

Welcome aboard. We need to start a thread to shamelessly show off our other toys.

I don't have this now, but it was a lot of fun.

SOB, I'm glad you lived long enough to get into making bio and messing with weird old/new/cloned/clowned engine, I came within a few thousandths of an inch of buying a machine exactly like that, but just could not get past that Jesus bolt. ;)

I never worried about the bolts to much. The important bolts were manga-fluxed.   In the offset gimble rotor head there are four bolts that if any one of them broke the blades would fall off. And the bolts did not look that big to me. I would use 1 inch bolts everywhere, but then maybe it would be to heavy to fly. I have heard when you design aircraft parts if you throw them up in the air and they come back down, they are to heavy.
