$2450 asking price

Found a Power Solutions engine for sale here in Texas.  Anyone have any information you can share on these?  Is it truly a Lister or a clone?  Pro's? Con's? Pricing fair?

Thanks!

Definitely a clone, likely a good one. Fairness depends on its condition and other variables but that number does not sound too bad at all. Is it nearby? You can factor some freight savings if it is... New 6/1 kits are now running $2149.

Yes, a clone.  Built to George at Utterpower's specifications.  Has a bronze idler vis a cast iron one.  I think these engins were sold a s a kit, and they were also specced to not be test ran at the factory, so the end user had a chance to disassemble and clean any casting sand from the internals before any damage was done to crank and rod bearings from a dirty test run.  I have one, received as a kit and cleaned, inspected and assembled by me.  I think they are a good engine, but it being "used", that price seems a little on the high side to me...
PS 6/1 - ST-5.

thanks for the info, Guys....

What does it take to turn it into a gen setup, from a cost perspective?

This engine is located within a couple of hours from me, so it would be close enough to not have to ship it, saving me some $$.

You would likely need cooling and exhaust system - can be built from scrap if you are handy and have some tooling.

Cost of generator head about $400-$500 typical with shipping for 5kW size. Fabricate a base to mount everything solid (local scrap). Procure pulley/belt/idler system from $150 to $350 or so.

Additional instrumentation, wiring, switching - could be another $100 to $300 or more if you went deluxe.

Lots of fun!

That sounds about right.  You may be able to find a 5K genhead for a little less...  Would reccomend a 6-8 groove serpentine pully(8 1/4" dia)  It can definitely be done less expensive if you are a good fabricator. These cool very well thermosiphon, so a small vertical tube radiator out of a honda or geo metro and a small electric fan is prettymuch all you need for a cooling system...

Agreed, lots of fun:)

Good luck...
