Yup.

I sure wish it was 570 Volts by 28 Amps.

Military spec... hard to tell if those are truly "new" as stated in the add or are take-offs as they appear to be in the photo. The presentation leaves me a bit wary, especially since it is a vulnerable piece of electrical and a bit pricey to boot.

Casey,

Why don't you get a used 3phase 480 volt AC motor and rectify the output.  you will need to spin it around 1875 to 1900 rpm i think.  I don't know what hp you would need , but i suspect that anything above 7hp would be enough.

Hi Carlb,

Because no one has actually done it that's talking.  Every time I follow a lead it turns into the future tense.  I've got the  7 hp.  And I've got the 25 inch flywheels.  I'm looking for a three phase generator.  I think my tractor PTO idea is solid but I'm rigged for twin V belts or serpentine will work as well.

I'm going to an industrial garage sale tomorrow to look at three phase motors.  What should I be looking for besides 3 phase 480 volt?

You will want something around 1800 rpm on the name plate.

Looks like they are used on the Caiman RG33 vehicle, used by the US Army:

it should be a 1725rpm 3phase, but i don't see why you cant use a 240 motor somewhere in the 7hp range should work.  Do not get a 3400rpm motor. how much voltage DC do you need?
I read somewhere where they are using AC motors as grid tied synchronous generators in some hydro setups.

I've seen milspec 3 phase equipment forsale in Gov't auction.  I know you are located in Hi, but I don't know where the auctions are in relationship to you.

This tread is really about these bad boy alternators so I started another one about grid tying your generator.
