I HAVE MODELS R, N LC,H 61JC AND 12H and wondering if anyone can identify year and what they might be worth. They are restored and all run good.

Models from which manufacturer? Those do not appear to be Lister references.

They are Listers, and the letters indicated are stamped on a brass tag indicating size, also the serial # are stamped on this tag. These are equipped with hoppers on them and I'm thinking early 1900's.

R, N, L, J and H are all Lister petrol engine types.

R was the largest petrol engine they made, other than the X type twin.

These are all examples of early Lister water cooled petrol engines.

The 12H (H indicates Hopper cooled) is a Lister D type if its the early shaft drive magneto version then it will be quite desirable. If its the later chain drive then its not so desirable, as Listers made thousands of these engines up until the mid 1960's

The rest are: H, J, L, N, and R types, they are are all basically the same design single cylinder side valve, and range from about 3HP for the H type, to 10HP for the R type. Fora more definitive description I suggest you refer to a book written by David Eggington 'Know your Lister's'.

As to price, these are all desirable engines [particuarly the H and R types as they do not seem to be that prevalent] to the right person. Keeping a watch on eBay for similar items to appear will be a good a guide as any.

I have seen what I assume are pictures of these engines, they are all 'Canadian Ball Hopper' versions of the basic petrol engines.

I do not see the LC type in the listings... I assume ball hopper and petrol fueled. Anyone familiar with the old LC?

Gary, The Brits call them "Canadian hoppers" While we call them Ball-tops here in the states. Hopper cooled engines do appear in England but are different shaped. The ball shaped hopper appears to have only been installed on engines that went to Canada for reasons that have been lost with time. I have not seen the term LC previously but I would guess "L" being model and "C" for Canadian? The L is by far the most popular but the Canadian style ball hooper was also used on other models both larger and smaller than the L.
That is a nice appearing engine I have a very early ball hopper L myself, did you buy it?

I am diesel all the way (except for a few natural gas variants)... so even if they are interesting and cute and made by Lister, I am letting others keep them if they are petrol fueled. I have a client asking after the details and support materials or documentation for the LC. I found it interesting that they are not in any of our extensive dealer literature collections.
