On later model Listers with full pressurized oil systems it is easy to crank over the engine with the decompressors engaged until you see the oil pressure rise on the gauge. This ensures lubrication where it should be. Only then would the conscientious operator engage compression and allow the engine to start up. This is the standard starting procedure we use all the time.
