Hi Tom,

I am not in the photo.   Ths two gentlemen in the photograph are "Jim" and "Lester" who are the guys who did all the work bringing these engines from India.

Great guys, very helpful.

Jim lives kinda close to me. Are the engines in his neck of the woods ?

I'm all set for Listers thanks  ;D  I was just wondering where they were as I though I might take a tour and have a boo at them. Don't get me wrong, I dont have anything against Indians, they make great Butter Chicken !! I will phone Jim, I have his number out in the chick magnet (my Cavalier).

The uncrating
« Reply #10 on: October 09, 2011, 01:44:11 AM »
Hi Guy,

When I picked up the engine from Jim,  it was placed on the back of my pickup truck with a fork lift.

However, that did present a problem when I got home......  how do I get it safely off the back of my truck?
Fortunately I have a friend who works for a fork lift company and he was able to come to my house
with all the right equipment.

So begins the job of uncrating.........

There was a large plasitic bag over the engine and beneath that
was plastic wrap.....   some dessicant inside as well

My first impression is good!  Everything looks fine with no shipping damage.
I will give it a more detailed inspection tomorrow.

Cheers !!!

Enjoyed the photos, very nice, just thinking about all those drilled holes in the flywheel and wondering what’s missing 180 degrees on the other side which requires so much metal being removed to balance.

Hi Horsepoor,
My thoughts exactly......   why so many drilled holes in one flywheel to balance and only one hole in the other flywheel.  The flywheel castings look good, but I will give them a closer inspection. today.

Has anyone else seen many holes in the flywheel to balance?    Is this common in cast iron?

Today, I will make a temporary base out of wood with wheels so that I can move the engine around in my shop as I work on it.    This is to be one of my winter projects.

I appreciate everyones comments.

Regards,

Bill
