Just got a phone call...
« on: August 09, 2011, 02:58:18 AM »
'Hey Paul, you're a Lister guy, i don't know what we're looking at''

 hmmm, go on

"It is a 5hp with great big flywheels with 2 holes in them"

 really, tell me more

"We went to look at this engine collection for sale and this was here"
"It's got a pulley on it but it looks like something is missing by the pushrod"

o.k. I think it's a Lister slow speed generator, possibly a Start-o-Matic, is there a generator ??

"No, no genny  :( but it's on a long cast iron base with a trough around it and long slots  ;D  ;D
"Do you want the guys number" ??

Sure, I'll give him a call thanks !!...... God it's good to have engine friends who are gas guys  ;D

Judging by the description I figure it's an early generatort set of some description but definately a 600 rpm engine with 2 kidney shaped holes in the flywheels and a large dia pulley, almost flywheel dia, inboard on one side. Confusing set up. Our schedules merge in September so I'll get a peek then. I'm taking my truck  ;)

Hey Paul,
If you have some spare time this weekend, head this way.  I'll be in Oblong

You don't know how much I'd love to meet you and Butch in person but the honeydo list is 3 days long and I have to fit it into 2 days ! Looking forward to a few dial-up killing photos of the setups !! Have fun, P.

The unit is a 5hp heavy flywheel engine mounted on a Lister cast base that was designed for a direct drive dynamo, 2.5kw 110v. Dynamo missing as well as the injector and pump. It's not stuck though and I left an offer for him to ponder.
I also uncovered a nice piece of kit there...a genuine CAV pop tester, offer left on that too (keeping fingers crossed on that tester)

Curious...I will keep my offer confidential but was wondering what you guys would have offered on this engine/base ?

Pumps are not overly expensive if your willing to put a MICO on it. Not sure about English Mfg? Not much data to go on down here in the states. At the Helmuth sale a year ago non -runner but basicaly complete 3/1 5/1 amd 6/1 engines brought from $600 to almost $2000. The base is worth??? Pop testers are handy has the dickens. I had one given to me and use it often.

I left you a msg on your cell earlier Butch. Looks like pump and injector run about $160 US or so from Stationary engine parts.
