I'm no expert on dating engines, but I looked here:

http://www.realdiesels.co.uk/identify/buildnos2.jpg

engine 1, engine number 15496SR115; is the 15496th engine of type SR1 built in 1965 (1950 + 15 = 1965).

engine 2, engine number 3738LR1-22; is the 3738th engine of type LR1 built in 1972 (1950 + 22 = 1972).

If these dates are not in the proper date range (1952-1981), then I used the wrong chart.  Anyone feel free to correct me if I missed it.

First SR1: appears to be from 1965, according to one of the manufacture dating schemes in use at the time, ... variations and exceptions do exist to confuse things though.
engine type was in production from 1967 thru 1976 so either we have some serial number confusion or other error in the dating scheme for this one.

Second LR1: is a closest neighbor of the SR1 in terms of manufacture dates. Yours appears to be the 3,738th LR1 unit built in 1972 if the conventions hold true.
engine type was in production from 1967 thru 1976

All parts are available for both of these units - they were (and remain) widely popular for alot of small utility power needs.

Never date two engines at once.  One is bound to find out about the other, then it gets ugly.......
