It is a side flow radiator, it would have to be stood on it's side to thermosiphon...
PS 6/1 - ST-5.

If you lean your head over it's on its side now.

Can I put a plug in for computer case fans here.  Low current.   12 VDC.  And most important - really quiet!

Wouldn't four of these look cool (pun intended) all lighted up during the hours of darkness.  Talk about redundancy.

Veggie, Regarding "brand" on this engine - it is from same parts pools that just about everyone uses in India. We put our own name on the castings - DES. You have to understand that brand actually has little meaning in regards to these machines as produced in India. We specify all parts designs as close to Lister original as possible and therefore can support all with a well established standard parts inventory. This is also the reason that we do not delve into any of the supposed Indian "improvements". The original old designs actually had a lot of wisdom behind them.

I have one of the D.E.S. 8/1 engines and can attest to what Gary said. It is very close. Notable exceptions are there is no priming lever for the oil pump, there is no steel tray above the upper sump. My engine is very close indeed to the late 8/1 Duresy engines,, at least as far as my limited knowledge goes. I also have a Metro 6/1 that has lots of the Indian changes including a DI head. It has been a good engine so far and I like the changes made to it. But I also wonder down the road about parts. Its not realy a worry for what I use the engine for but if I was a long hour user I would be concerned enough to be hording spares for it. As Gary said it is unlikely that true to form CS spares will ever be hard to come by in our lifetimes,, in my opinion ;)

The Cylinder Block in Gary's 'kit' does not have a liner also.

I was over at Zero's work shop today and he has done an excellent job
putting his engine to work. Now if I can  just coax him over to MY work shop
and assist with mine ;D

I like your generator head.   What are the specs, and where did you get it?      Where did you get the pulleys?

I bought the Winco 4KW generator head from CSN for under $500 shipped. The price has gone up a little since then.

http://www.csnstores.com/asp/show_detail.asp?sku=WNC1077

It is a 3600 RPM brushless type. I got the generator pulley from McMaster-Carr. It uses J-section belts, which have smaller ribs than automotive type belts. The alternator came with a pulley that I turned down smooth, since it had the wrong grooves. HTH and good luck.

Hi Zero_G,

Is there an advantage to the different grove profile?

Casey

It seemed to me that there was a greater choice of belt lengths and pulley sizes available. Other than that, no.

How did you figure out which pulley to buy?     If I need 3600rpm at the generator and 650rpm for the engine how do I figure pulley size?     I'm sure if I take the size of my flywheel there should be a formula to get the size of pulley I need,  but I sure don't know it.

650 times diameter of flywheel divided by 3600 = diameter of pulley

ie.   650 x 23.5 =15275

      15275 / 3600 = ~4.24

If your flywheel is an indian 6/1 like mine, you would want a pulley of approximately 4.25"
I think these are available from user listeroidsusa1.  I'd send him a PM.

i used an online calculator and ended up with a 4.5" pulley on the generator head.
