worn valves advice please
« on: March 18, 2011, 08:53:43 PM »
I've got a lister HA3 with worn out valve stems, and guides i'm rebuilding, i'd rather leave it for some other time to replace them, i need to cut costs, so how will this affect the running, is it that important ?

valves and guides are inexpensive for your HA... I don't think you will cut costs by taking the chance and having other engine problems. These air-cooled Listers are dependent on crankcase vacuum to keep the engine seals intact and the oil in the crankcase where it belongs. Worn out guides will compromise your valve seal and may lose crankcase vacuum through the guide. If you also wear out your valve seats, then the repair costs will rise dramatically.
