Lister CS 6/1 can not reach full load
« on: February 18, 2011, 09:04:25 AM »
Dear all

i own a lister CS 6/1 bought from india and currently got some problems with my engine. I coupled my engine with a generator and used bulbs to load my engine for some experiments using PPO. When i run the engine at 3.5 Kw nothing happen but when i add 1/kw more the engine became overload and automatically shut down. I tried to adjust the governor again but it's not working. Does anyone here knew about this problem before ? Please help me. Thanks a lot =(

3.5KW is 4.7HP, so bearing in mind alternator efficiency you cannot expect to get much more, certainly not 4.5KW. The SOM sets with the CS6/1 were rated at 2.5KW.

Remember, the Yugo was not rated for more than 150 in second gear....shift to third and you should be OK ;D

Yep.... 3.5 kw from a Listeroid 6/1 is about all you are going to get.
Most people set up their 6/1 systems to provide 3KW.
At 3.5 kw you should start getting some black smoke and a lot of ground thumping  :)

Sounds to me like your unit is operating fairly closely within specs... you might do some fine tuning though and get a little more power output. Take a very close look at your actual compression ratio and piston bump height, make certain your valves are sealing fully and rings in good condition, check injector spray pattern and atomization and then the injection timing! Very small changes in the timing can make a big difference in the engine performance. I have seen many identical engines, especially in generator pairs, perform quite differently from one another and it is the very small adjustments that can make the difference!

Release the ignition key, the starter is being driven as a generator, and sucking HP

Release the ignition key

I tried that - the damn thing skipped across the border, swum the Adriatic and made good its escape into Italy!
Cheers!

Bear in mind that altitude will also play a large part in power output. The derating factor is approx 8% for every thousand feet above 600 feet above sea level.

That's not an ignition key problem, it's a timing problem.  Retard the timing 3 degrees and you'll be able to keep up with it.....on foot ;D

today i checked injection timing of my engine and it was 14 CA BTDC.........if i advance i think it will result in serious knocking.......currently my engine run not so smooth and some time knock..........what happened ????

According to the manual, injection should be at around 20 degrees BTDC. The same manual suggests that knocking could be:
a) A sticking exhaust valve being struck by the piston (clean valve stems & guides)
b) A slack bearing (it doesn't suggest which one)
c) Insufficient clearance between piston & head (check bump clearance)
d) Injection too early (doesn't sound like it, in your case)
e) Flywheel loose on shaft... I think you'd know about that one, but worth checking.
Cheers!
