Brought to you my Bestsy the Listeroid
« on: June 02, 2011, 12:40:05 AM »
High winds have caused power outages.  We have been running on Betsy for 2 hours.

Temp outside 24C
Temp in to my former Dodge Caravan Rad is 80C
Tem out of the rad with a small fan running is 46C

Im using my AC, two fridges and a Freezer on... and the TV's.

I have about 3KW on the Listeroid... 10/1 with a 7 KW head

No flicker, and not using a lot of fuel

We haven't had even one stinken power outage since I built our 6/1 and Changfa standby sets >:( Heck I shut the grid main off in the shop and powered it with the 1115 all day on Saturday just to keep it limber.

We have plenty of power outages in my neighborhood, but it never fails....as soon as I fire up the genny the power comes back on ???

I've gotten to the point of waiting at least two hours before going to back-up power but it's still a crap-shoot ;D

My next door neighbor works for the power co. I think he calls them when he hears my generator start...... :police:

I live in a rual area (equine) with frequent power outages. Most are very short duration, 5 to 30 minutes. However, I now have a new technique: as soon as the power goes out, I start the 20/2 listeroid. After an hour or two, I check and see of the line power is back on. This gives me an excuse to run my engine, justify costs to wife, and ensure it really is redy for a prolonged outage.
GTC 20/2 down rated to 850 rpm - ST 15
Metro 6/1 800 rpm on cart - ST 7.5

Major electrical storm came through this afternoon, 33.9C to 22C in less than 15 minutes... WOW the lightning and the wind... and here i type 8 hours later and Im still on betsy power... power not back on till 0400...

So, it would appear that I can get nearly 24 hours of power out of 20 L of fuel... and I have
2 fridges,
1 freezer
two sump pumps
Bioler
Air exchange/AC unit
plus lights and stuff... about 3500 W of load

Wife has completely forgotten about the money I spent on the Listeroid.

Shut her down at 0200 am...Looks like Im going to need to change the oil and do some lubrication on bestdy

Had a neighbour ask me about my genset... he noticed it was pretty quiet and I had lots of lights and stuff on... unlike him with his Brigs and Straton.
