LEF UPGRADE PREPARE FOR OUTAGE

Ladies and Gentlemen.
The LEF will be upgraded to the newest edition of the software (already running on another server), we will be moving to a new server, we will be adding the log in add ons to make administration a lot easier... so yes Virgina as of today you can use your gmail account

The upgrade will start on Sunday At ~09:00GMT, the existing LEF forum will be put into maintenance mode... please note that is Greenwich mean time, so that would be like 0400am in New York City.

OMG!!! I think this is the first time I've been lucky to see a warning that the site was going to be down instead of just the sweaty palms when I got the 'page can not be found' error

Fellow Lister enthusiasts,

Because the Forum is moving onto a new server, with a new address, I will be changing the name server records accordingly. However, DNS (name server) records can take up to 48 hours to refresh, so when you first try to access the forum after the migration, you may end up here, on the old server. The forum will have been replaced with a link to the new version - which will be on a separate temporary address.

PLEASE DO NOT ALTER YOUR BOOKMARKS.

Within 48 hours, everything will be back to normal, and it'll be like nothing changed.... except the version of SMF will be newer, and hopefully the site won't be prone to periods of unexplained - and often extended - downtime...



Please don't worry if the entire explanation above was gibberish to you... Just click the links when they say to click them, and don't change your bookmarks.

At any time in the future, might it be possible to download (personally) a copy of the complete LEF database.  It would really be handy to have stored locally if there were ever a WTSHTF situation.

With us moving to a commercial server, with backup, and three of us able to do backups locally, the risks of the backups not working or being avail is very small.  No need to worry, we have moved to address that concern

Just a thought......

What if a forum backup on CD was available to members for $5 - $10.  ?

Each year, a new updated backup is made available for an additional $5 - $10.

I'm guessing enough of us would buy one to raise enough money to pay the hosting fees for the forum. !

The forum would benefit and the members would benefit.
