HELP !!!!!
« on: November 08, 2010, 05:05:41 PM »
Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum so please forgive me if I am not in the right place.

I recently had a main crank bearing take a dump and in the process it broke the hub on the engine. I have a Vidhata 10/1 DI engine. The hub that broke is the one with the 5 bolt pattern. I have contacted Central Main Diesel and they don't stock this part, they are contacting India to see how long it would take to get it but I was hoping maybe some of you might have one I could buy, borrow & replace or know somewhere else I might find one. I also need the gear that goes on the crank to drive the timing gear. This is my main power source so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray Z

Look up this topic. Lots of info about crankshaft timing gear replacement and lack of availability.

Try these guys diesel electric service     http://www.diesel-electric.us/csparts.htm.      this is thier cs parts page. about #15 down the page, 8/1 crank main bearing housing. PN 008-02169. $65.00 looks like they have 12 in stock.  I don't see the crank gear unless it is the "idler pinion" third part from the top.  near the bottom of the page they show "crankshaft with pinion" maybe the same "pinion"? if not they do have the crank with pinion $369.00.  good luck.

Ray,

If you're in a real jam and can't find one here in the States, Stationary Engine Parts also looks to have them as well as lots of other parts.  Shipping from the UK will be costly though.

http://www.stationaryengineparts.com/Crankshaft-Bearing-Carriers.html

I'd drop them a note just to verify that the TRB style has the 5 bolt holes.

They also carry the correct shims here:

If you can't find a crank gear, you might contact akghound as he found a new one someplace when he replaced his:

Finally, Vidhata is also always another option for parts:

Good luck!

I see they dont list a separate part # for each side of the engine bearing housing but they certainly are different.  I am assuming that yours is likely broken. It is possible a good repair might be done, either as a permanent or temporary solution.

I don't think that part would be very hard to make on a lathe. Just get some steel plate and other pieces about the right shape and size, spot weld them together, do a rough machine, weld it, then do the finish machining. You just need to know someone with a lathe and some time.
Currently no listeroids, sad........ very sad.....
Just some other antique engines ranging from 40 pounds to 33,000 pounds each.
