How to adjust pH of WMO?
« on: November 04, 2010, 10:32:12 AM »
Can someone tell me the best way to adjust the pH of my WMO. I have a batch that I plan to centrifuge soon. Thanks, Randy B

Hello Randybee1,
I am no chemist, and don't have first hand experience , but I saw an explanation on another alternate fuels site which suggested that oils as such do not
have a ph. Acids and alkalines are water based fluids and unless you have free water in your oils these will not be present. You could try blending a sample of your oil by
agitating it with water and testing the water when settled out, but you may then have a small amount of suspended water which will only be removed with difficulty by heating and centrifuging. Look into other alternate fuel sites. there is a lot of info out there,  Regards,  Combustor.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'm going to have to do some more research. Since oil is a hydrocarbon and since pH is the Hydrogen ion concentration of a liquid I would bet that oil does indeed have a pH. More research... thanks, Randy B
