Slowing down
« on: February 12, 2010, 06:42:44 PM »
I am taking delivery of a 10/1 Listeroid that runs at 1,000 rpm; however, for longevity, I want to de-rate the engine to turn at 650 rpm's.  Has anyone else done this???  What is required?

Many thanks,

Laus Deo

Its the same basic engine, probably internaly ballanced with smaller flywheels.
Your speed regulation and flicker would be improved with some electric flywheels.

I doubt its realy an issue find the best running speed for your load and don't worry about it.

What are you driving with it? Gen head? What size?  How much load in KW.  You will most likely have to experiment with different governor balance springs.

1000rpm is not fast. The engine will last longer running at 1000rpm with the governor open at 70%. Than with the engine running at 650rpm while lugging it's guts out at 100% governor opening.

Thank you gentlemen.  It appears that 1,000 is the way to go as I am only going to be loading it with a 5Kw head.

Overbore,

There is only one way to go.  If you are expecting 5kW you will need all, or nearly all, those 10 horses!  General rule of thumb is 2HP per kW generation.
