Lister G1
« on: August 19, 2009, 01:33:33 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm not sure where to post this question, but this "Engines" sub-section seems appropriate.

I'm busy restoring a Lister G1 petrol/paraffin engine I found recently.
It's in quite a sorry state, but almost everything seems to be intact except one thing, a linkage between the governor arm and the carburetor.

http://listerenginegallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=3019

(Sorry, but I forgot how to make the pics show up in the thread)

The pictures on the web of these engines are very scarce and the ones I could find does not show the part clearly. The manual only has a sectional view of the engine, so no luck there for me!

Does anyone here perhaps own one of these that could take a picture for me of the linkage, so that I can make one please?

Thanks in advance guys,

Can someone maybe tell me where to take these type of questions? Maybe another place on the net somewhere?

I'm busy trying to restore one of each type of old Lister available to me here in South Africa, i.e. I'll maybe restore a FR1 and not the FR3to6, an A, not AK as well, obviously depends whats available.

To date I've restored an AK, D, G1, CS & LR1 and I might have access to a BK, L and F, then I'll have to start looking elsewhere.
Its a pity Lister didn't make a "hit 'n' miss" I would love to do one!

I'm probably going to need a lot of help on missing parts that I do not have a clue what they must have looked like!

I have most of the manuals, but some of them only have a sectional view of the engine and individual parts are unclear, unlike the CS manual which have individual part drawings.

Hope someone can point me into the right direction, thanks guys.

dubleUJay,

Sorry if your question got lost in the shuffle, could have been that those that came across it didn't have a solid response. Sorry to say I don't have any experience with that particular engine. As far a Listers, this forum seems to be one of the better sources on the net. Although, it does seem to be focused on the diesel variety.

Your solution for the governor linkage, appears to be well thought out and well executed. might I ask what did you make it out of?

Not sure where to advise you to look elsewhere for advise, keep pushing these ole dodgers, there's allot of knowledge in this collective, they'll come around.

Murph'

There's an excellent resource at http://www.stationary-engine.net/forum/ - lots of engine rebuilders on there, and they favour paraffin/petrol/tvo engines over diesel, in general...

As this forum is biased heavily towards the Lister CS , you willl struggle on infromation for other types of Lister. Best to use the other forums such as the one shown above. Good job you've done on the G1 BTW.

Hi Murph and others that responded. Thanks for your input, for some reason I didn't get any email reminders that there was replies for my post. I will try the other suggestion in the future.

Murph', I made it out of threaded rod as a temporary measure and put some heat-shrinkable plastic over the middle part to hide the thread.
Unfortunately I only had a piece of blue at the time and have since replaced it with a black piece which looks more authentic. The "end-adjusters" are leftovers from my CS spares ;-)
