Do you want this? I am gonna throw it out.
« on: September 16, 2009, 04:51:55 AM »
I have fallen for that line again. Some one had 20 gallons of diesel fuel. Red in color. Don't know how old or if there is water in it. Looks okay. I transferred it to other containers through a screen which came out clear. Does anybody know how I can determine if is it is usable? Should I add something to it or filter it in some way?

Syphon some off the bottom, soak a rag with it, a spoonful will do. set it on the ground or a stone or something.
light it. It should burn and smell like a diesel truck.  ;)
That's probably good enough for a Lister(oid).
This advise is worth what you paid for it.  ::)

I love proper quality control.

Apparently my grandfather did much the same thing when he was selling lightening.  Toss a splash on the floor and light it.   Blue flame - A man’s drink.  Anything else was left for the fools.

Ha; I had someone drop off an old tank full of fuel from a large truck last, Saturday, quantity, my guess about 50 Gallons and red in color. What to do with it now that it is on my property? I ran it through three filters, thje last was a 10 Micron filter, then transferred  by holding the tank up high and let grafity take it's course into the main supply tank for the CS 6-1. It will then be filtered again with the CS-6-1 filter and supply me with a fair amount of electrons.
The only thing I add is Diesel Fuel conditioner every couple of Months during the winter to keep it from jelling.

Does anyone know if you can add gasoline fuel conditioner to old gasoline to make it "fresh" again?

I had a bad experience with salvaged diesel fuel in a tractor. There can be a kind of bacterial slime I guess, that plugs filters very quickly and thoroughly. I wound up changing filters three times before I was shed of it. No bargain!

Hey Stan,

I'd contact the manufacturer about applications.

Pri-G claims to do that. I've stored gas for upto 4 years with it and had great results. Some Acetone may work too.

Yup, I'm going to do the acetone thing, but you have to be careful cause a little goes a long way.

The conditioners like Sta-bil will prevent new gas from going stale as quickly, but I doubt anything will make old gas "fresh" again.
