Job search
« on: July 21, 2009, 06:43:31 PM »
I am currently looking for employment.

AS some of you know I am an industrial electrician working for a large mining company.
Sadly things have changed with foreign owner ship and I am no longer comfortbable with the long term prospects ( or short term I'm on strike right now ).

So if any of you guys get wind of some work for a inter provincial graded industrial electrician I am ready to pack up and move. Looking west towards BC seems like the right new direction for me.

Bugger I thought I had a future here and now I am just another unemployed sod....

are you interested in  living in Ontario, and work in Alberta 3 weeks, home for a week, back out for 3??

That's the arrangement my buddy has, seems to like it.  They look after the flights, room and board, etc.  He just goes out, does the work, comes home.   Might be a lot harder with kids though.

Works at one of the oil refinery sites out there.

I can get some contact info if you want.

I talked with a couple of guys who do that from Nfld.....They say the living in Alberta, especially up North is very expensive, but if you bunk in with a bunch of other guys, don't go wild with booze or cards, you can make a lot of cash in a short time.  Jobs there are even getting tight, although there's always work for good, experienced skilled guys like you Doug.

Don't count out retirement though, you don't need as much $$$$ as you think you do and the lifestyle can't be beat.  It's even better than winning the lottery, don't believe me?  research lottery winners and see how their lives get ruined fast!

My buddy doesn't pay for room and board.

He's put up by his employer, in what would remind most people of a college dorm, but without all of the sex and pranks.

It's alot easier than trying to look for a place, plus it saves all of the hassles of sharing a house with people who dont live/eat/sleep in the same manner than you do.

Please Steve forward me that info.
That sounds exactly like the kind of thing I am looking for right now.

Stan I hung up my wild years some time ago. Not much for drinking anymore I just want to get some work in and get out realy simple....
Retirement, I am a very nervous fellow about pensions and RRSPs  I dont trust the pension funds goverment and now have lost faith in my employer.

Here is a fellow I talk about pension with once Peter here was a stope leader at one of the mines where I worked back in the 60s.
I think he he's happy lol
