Is there any type of electronic or electroniclly controlled hydrolic governer commonly available for the slow speed lister engine? 24 HP 20cylinder

You could start with a car cruise control and develop one from there.  Let us know how you get on.

Any automotive type cruise control I have ever had has worked on vacuum.  It works well if you are staying within a small set of parameters but if you come to a hill it wants to put full throttle on.  Not a good idea for a Lister.  ???

The JC Whitney catalog used to have an add-on cruise control for sale that had an electric solonoid throttle actuator.  It is the only cruise control that I have ever seen that was not a vacume powered throttle actuator.  I don't remember the brand name but it said "electric" in the description in such a way that it was plain which one it was.  A neighbor had one on his 6 cylinder chevy van and it burned out the throttel actuater severel times, I suspect the linkege needed re-arranging so the actuator wouldn't have to work so hard.  I have been tempted several times to buy one as a start for a speed govenor.  Please excuse the spelling....   :P        Leland

Has anyone considered using programable logic controlers(plc)?  I bet a setup could be made that would be much more responsive to load.  With a plc the rack could be opened as soon as a load is placed on generator, rather than waiting for the flywheel to slow down.

some mercedes, and 90's american made cars and later use electric cruise actuators. perhaps they may be useable.

I understand feature creep.  The plc is so versitile, if you have the patience to program it.  Subroutines could be used for feature creep once the governor part was written and proven.
