Wiring up a newage Stamford regulator
« on: July 07, 2009, 02:26:48 AM »
Hi All
I have been trying to sort out the wiring on a 25 KVA Lister HR3 / Stamford regulator.I have powered the generator w/ 12 volts DC and got 415v AC (mains power) indicating the genset is OK, The Genset came with no regulator fitted, the wires to regulator are not marked, I have obtained a regulator and had it tested, I fitted the wires from the numbers on the terminal board U/W/Y (genset) and used 1,2,3, regulator terminals as the phases from the genset ie 3 phase sensing? one of the phase wires U  did not come directly from the 3 phase block it came via the No 2 terminal ( i think?). anyway when I started the genset it was pulsing about once a second going from about 60 to 120 vac 3 phase , The person who checked out the regulator seems the think it should be wired up not 3 phase sensing but single or 2 phase?, they gave a hand drawn diagram but I dont want to change wires around unless I  have to, I could get it more confused, anybody know where I could get some other diagrames

Do you have a pic or model # off this regulator???

Usually the regulators take 2 phases, or 1 phase & neutral.

The different pins are for different sensing voltages if equipped.

Hi All
The regulator is a Newage SX440 will try to get a photo on, Today I got instructions how to wire it up single phase sensing, one live and a neural and the generator worked, but, the lowest I could adjust it down was 502 vac,( they did tell me I would have to adjust the volts)  I need 415v 3 phase any ideas

Hello Barry100,
I am no expert on alternators, but I find a lot of good info by going to Cummins Generator Technologies website, looking under STAMFORD. There are
many online manuals there for various alternator and regulator models and diagnosis procedures. Takes a while to trawl through it all, but usually worth it,  Regards,

Hi Barry,
I think I have the hookup diagram for an SX440 on the computer at home.  Will try and post / email later.  Those are a nice little regulator.  You may find a diagram on the website as suggested.

Hi All
In the end I got a wiring diagram emailed  from Stamford, when I checked it out my genset had an extra wire that wasn't on the diagram,( it looked like the others and I was certain it was from new) Stamford insited that is shouldn't be there, when the wire wasn't fitted it wouldn't work, there was only one terminal it could go on so I took a chance and fitted it , then it worked so problem solve
