Always... keep up the good work :) One can always learn something from these strip-down/rebuilds, especially when well documented with photos.

It's particularly interesting to see that your 'oid is balanced through the flywheels rather than with crankshaft balance weights - something to bear in mind should you ever look at replacing your flywheels with heavy ones.

The tappets were not the best: I surfaced the heads that ride on the cam, also work the cams over some. The rocker on the exhaust was centered on the valve, but I had to make a brass spacer to center up the intake.

Only things I found inside that looked off to me was some crud on the casting by the cam shaft bearings. The cooling ports needed to be opened up. The main rod bearing looked burnished*.
So I got maybe 1/4 cup of crud out of the castings. Opened the cooling ports as much as possable, Installed a new rod bearing, Plasti-gauge looked to be between .003-.004.
Going back together:

Side to side above the wrist pin was dead on, no jug work needed!
I had to buy a new torque wrench, all bolts were torqued to spec.

Keep going with the photos. :)   The generator is repainted to cover up the windings?   I thought clear varnish is sufficient if running in a protected enviroment like a shed?

Cheers, Wizard

If the rod clearance is 4 thou, it is probably out of spec already.

Looked to be little over .003, I thought that was right there?

Manual spec for original Lister states the big end bearing wear "should not exceed 0.003"

Well with all the bearing clearance discussion I'll check it after I get a few hours on her.
Everything that went on got torqued.
Here are some more pics:

you may want to put some 2 or 2.5" round tube in between the I Beam to help it from trying to twist.  My frame is almost the same as yours and without the round tubing in between the uprights I had a fair amount of Flex.  Once I installed the pipe the flex went away.  I put three pieces in.

Thanks Carl,
I've got things tied together with angle iron, dosen't show in these pics.
Also the way the ST rail is made when you adjust the belt tension and tighten the bolts down it also helps hold the Ibeams straight.
Not seen any problems yet, I'll change things to what ever has worked best in the past on other peoples.

LOL, yep thought the barrel was faster and cheaper than a angle iron stand. No water in the bottom yet.
Now everyone will want one!

I rebuilt the generator after I ran everything for a couple hours. Guess you guy pretty much have seen all the pics I have on Flickr.
If you haven't looked, here are a couple more.
The bearings in the ST were loud!
