Thats a SOM, you can see the electric hold open device
But it looks like its wired for North American use at 120 v, 12 Amp

The engine is a 3/1 engine
3 hp @ 600rpm
1.5 kw generator

Do you know if the generator is DC or AC because I think it is probably  a DC unit produced by lister described as a
Diesel  fully automatic plant the reason I say this is because I have a 1938 Lister manual for these units and it looks very similar to yours

The device on the side is an electric governor a very rare piece of kit and the change over valve on the head looks like it could be broken

Generator is DC system. There was yore 60 piece 2 Volts glass lead batterys, now all batterys are broken.

Generator was starting automatically, when load is enough.

Few pictures more

One of early batteries with glass cased lead-acid, that's awesome history there. :)   The top is hard rubber material, very often the case is also made from hard rubber material, the seal is you guessed is bituminous tar (same stuff for roofing)!

Cool pictures.  Better save that SOM as it has few items that is rare like electronic regulator part etc.

Cheers, Wizard

This unit has been identified as a Lister Bruston automatic lighting plant in a previous post. Fantastic to see all that original stuff !

Wow, what a great find Tatu K. :o  !  It would nice to restore it to working condition charging batteries and use an inverter to run your loads!  It would seem from looking at the manual that some automatic starting units came with electrically operated compression changeover valves; hard to tell if this unit had that.  I've always wondered if there were such devices for the old units and now I see evidence that such devices were made.  I'll bet that it's extremely hard to obtain a working unit  :'( !               Leland

Very cool, Tatu K., especially the old log cabin!  (And the Lister, of course.)

Tatu, if that engine plate is accurate, you have a 1937 3/1 - but that doesn't seem to fit with the flywheels, which are very similar to the start-o-matic type...

The flywheels shown are the so-called "electric" type, supplied by Lister on any CS plant fitted to a generator. the additional mass gave smoother output
and better governing,to reduce voltage fluctuation or "flicker" from the powerstroke pulses of such a low speed engine. Not a problem with many modern
alternators which have electronic regulators which deliver constant voltage, though not constant frequency. Great old machine. Good luck with it!
                                                                                                                                                                Regards,  Combustor.
Toys include- Lister CS 8/1, Lister VA SOM plant and some Aussie engines.

Engine's flywheels and plate is accurate, watch picture. Plant and dynamo number match too, but plant and engine number don't match ???

engine plate...

...and number from outer flywheel

Plant plate

What is this injection pump piece mission? ??? More start fuel?

Dynamo's connection box, which including vespiary too.

Engine not runnig yet, saturday eavning it almost running. It give lot of smoke, and run very very slow, but not take more speed. I open injecton atomizer. It was full of rust and spring is broken. How about injection nozzle, is there one or more hole? Fuel come out only one point and not spray. Engine's compression is very low too, maybe piston rings are jammed. Smoke come out too from crankcase.

Engine is now my summer cottage and I don't can make big engine repairs in this autumn. At the latest next summer this Lister run, it is sure! ;D
