T19,, i always loved the FNC1, it is a reach out and touch someone rifle, totally ruins more than their day, lol. only prob i had with it was the butt stock, never  had one that fit me properly so after 60 rounds my cheek would be bruised. It may be heavy but better that than our c7,s good for squrrel, lol but no penetration on a seriouse target.

Cheers
Derek

Hey Mactoollover2005 ----you should turn up the gas vent dial on your FN and save your cheekbone.   Keep it hidden,  you might need it someday.

I'm guessing my 1911 Winchester pump action 22 will probably get me in way more trouble with a bear than if I tried the screaming school-girl routine. Maybe if I used the Winchester as a BAT I might be better off.... :D

Zac, you'd likely be better off trying to stuff it into his mouth, that way he couldn't get as much of you in there  ::)
I remember an article I read in Boys Life as a kid that told the true stories of several people that survived grizzly bear attacks, in one the man under attack had been charged by the bear & he had fired 5 shots from his .44 magnum revolver at the bear as it charged with no disearnable effect, the bear leapt upon him, knocking him down, & started to maul him, pawing & biting at his face, the man, in a last ditch effort to save himself raised the revolver to fire his last shot & the bear bit at the gun as he fired, sending the last bullet into the bears mouth. the bear immedeatly stopped his attack & walked away shaking his head, never to be seen again.

When a grizzly charges, his muscles are doing all the thinking for him, and are driven by his equivalent of pure adrenalin.  You can't stop him by shooting him in the head any more than you can stop a teenage boy at the height of .....well, you know what.  :-[

I have talked to two people who have emptied 6 rounds each from high powered rifles into a charging grizzly only to have it stop after a 70 foot charge.  It stopped only 10 feet from them.  It the bear had been only 50 feet away, all of them would have been killed.

You're right, one tough hunk of muscle.

A pound of ground beef some warfarin and a stiff spring all finely cut up and all mixed together will not stop a charging bear but it does make them go away.....

First you have to freeze the spring into a small patty, then put it into the larger one.  Or so they tell me ::)

Obviously we don't a Bear problem in the UK so reading this thread is quite a revelation !  Two things occur to me , 1/ Bears must be so aggressive because they have no natural predator to be wary of , including man despite all the guns etc , 2/ Why the hell do they make fluffy toy bears for kids ??!!

I'm with you!  I got my little boy a gulper eel at the Monterey Bay Aquarium a few years ago.  He still sleeps with it.
