Which oil should I use?
« on: March 12, 2009, 03:54:19 AM »
I have a Lister ST3.  IT is run in Southern Louisiana to power a camp in the marsh (awesome fishing).  What grade of oil should I use?  I just did an oil change and added 30SAE heavy duty diesel oil.  Should I have used 15W40?  It is usually no colder than 15C when it is started.  In the summer though temps can reach the mid 30C during the hottest times of the day.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Either of those oils are OK in your ST in your moderate temperature range. The multigrade may make it a little easier at low temps if you are hand cranking, but you will find those old ST's are tough. I occasionally maintain an ST2 that runs near full load in 45c temps for weeks on a few pounds oil pressure, and it won't die!

Hi Chlamy
Lister recomend a mono grade, it's because of the plunger oil pump , not a multigrade, the sae 30 sounds about right
