Just starting chapter 2 of "The Great Depression Ahead" by Harry S. Dent Jr.  Looks very good, quite technical.  All about cycles and stuff.    Just finished "The Long Emergency" by James Howard Kunstler.  Very good reading, he seems to have a handle on the "rest of the story".

Bottom line!  Start stocking up on supplies boys!  :-X

I am, just scored three 275 gallon square plastic shipping containers W/ wire cage around them on pallets (for liquids) now to  find a source of used veg oil & a way to filter it. have to install a receptical for my stick welder (only been livin' in this house for ten years) so i can weld the skid fame together for the "Iron Maiden" (what i'll call her since the good names like thumper & penelope have been taken) being layed off for a month has helped on several projects around the house.  more pictures of skid frame & engine/gen mounting to come.

   Happy Listering,

Wow, that must be over 800 gallons (remember I swore off math) of fuel!  At a gallon or so an hour, that's what I call really stocking up!

At this point i just have the tanks, still looking for a supply of veg oils & still have to build a power house, finish the skid frame, mount the engine & gen head. run pipe to the house from power house, make electric starting system,  do all the wiring, mount & wire controls, guages, transfer switch, get inspections on all above etc, etc, etc. And I ain't gettin' any younger!

The recession hit my business too. However there is a bright side. I found a good job as an R & D tec and today I scored a nice 55 gal drum of used hydraulic oil and there is much more to come. Where I work just uses this oil to test systems before shipping. Well they once contaminated a bunch of customers by reusing the test oil. Now it just gets used one time, so it should be pretty clean! I've also become the "waste oil guy" for the plant. To bad I'm only burning around 60 gal of fuel per year. I might have to get a diesel Mercedes.

We may not be seeing the end of this soon, as Obama is converting us from a capitalist system to a socialist system. Hopefully in 2010 we can start putting some brakes on this. That's my $.02 worth.
Q: What is the difference between God and Barack Obama?
A: God doesn't think He's Barack Obama.

The one's i'm getting had a water based concrete curing compound in them, also takes some cleaning but i'm getting about 5 gallons of curing compoun per tank & it will come in handy when i pour the power house foundation.

Woops,

Let me remind you:

    Public Schools
    Public Roads
    Public Stock Market
    Public Fire Departments *
    Public Police Departments *
    US Department of Defense *

*  Gold Stars go to fascist based organizations.

We Americans always turn to fascist socialism when there's an important job to be done.  President Bush made $400,000 in 2007 as president; G. R. Wagoner, Jr., the CEO of GM, made 14 million in 2007 and the capitalist insist they’re more efficient.  Please.

If you don’t understand the US government is fundamentally socialist then you just don’t understand democracy.  Incidentally, who is bailing whom out here?

Agreed Casey, the U.S. Govt increasingly becomes more fascist/socalist as it userps powers from the individual, powers not given to it by the Constitution, the document that all govt officals swear allegance to "protect & defend" & then trash as soon as they are in power..
The only problem with your Bush/Waggoner scenario, other that they both failed, is Bush didn't have Waggoner telling him how to run the govt. & Waggoner does have the Govt. telling him how to make cars, they call it "cafe standards" "safety standards" etc. My personal feeling is if they can't make it they should fail & i've been a Chevy guy for 30 years,  but the new administration is going to make failure the only way to succeed, ie" if you used your house as an atm, got an interest only loan, bought more house than you could afford, we'll bail you out.
Oh & you forgot to put a * next the the public schools.

As a child growing up in 'merica some public schools had the allegiance and prayers while some one or the other and then others had neither.  But the nail that is above the board is soon smoothed over in any bureaucratic state.

I think the next couple of years are going to be very interesting if not exciting.  I'm just hoping the neo-conservative are better sports than Rush and are as supportive of this new style economic system as the neo-liberal folks were with the Cheney-Bush machine. ::)  Good sportsmanship is neither groups strong point.

But I'm going to have my hands out for the Karl Marx give-a-way programs if I can find and qualify for them.  I want solar.  I want solar cheap.  Please help me save the planet.  Please help me save our economy.  Sir / Mam; private citizen Casey reporting for duty.  Sir / Mam!

Hey, there's nothing wrong with a completely free, entrepeneurial (sp?) for profit economic system.  All you need are completely honest, greed-free people!  Failing that, you must have stringent controls on who can do what, when, and how!  Witness our "captains of industry", and Canadians aren't blameless either, look at our very own Conrad Black.
