Lister paint colour
« on: February 14, 2009, 09:46:13 PM »
So gang, if not Mid-Brunswick Green what colour would you paint your Lister ? I like the idea of a military khaki green, all business. They did produce an off colour green during the 2'nd world war reffered to as "war finish" IIRC.The only drawback to the flat green is that it is going to show up casting marks etc much more apparently than a gloss finish. Choices choices ! I have seen black, red and green; anyone see any other colours out there.Red-yuck.

Somewhere on youtube there's a white one.  I'll bet THAT would get filthy looking in a hurry.

DeRusto green works well on John Deeres for me and isn't too far from Lister factory green.  I have never been complimented on my ability to discrern colors.  We tampered with some DeRusto for the British Motor Cars engine green a few years back and came very very close to that dullish industrial machine look that BMC used for their minis and I think Sprite/Midget line as well.

Blood simple has a certain sweetness to it as well.

I'm really fond of gray as well.  It seems to say heavy duty and a few other manly things but it really shows up the oil and dirt.

Flat Battleship gray was another choice of mine. Funny how we perceive colours as meaning something !!

That Grey shows up oil is a good thing , oil leaks etc can be spotted early. British Military vehicles have or had a light Duck Egg blue colour for engine bays etc to reveal fluid leaks at a glance.

Notice to all canucks....go into a Home Hardware store and pick up a pint of Weather Shield Rust Coat in Gloss Green.  It's as close to original as possible (as evidenced by a couple of places on Penelope that were protected by covering metal).  It's common, will always be there, it dries fast, can be painted with a cheap throw away brush with no brush marks, and future boo boos can be quickly repainted with no evidence.  (just ask me I know that welding can be covered up extremely well  :-[).

After exhaustively searching every medium possible I have determined that sometimes they came out of the Dursley factory with bright red radiator fans, and the basic radiator painted black.  Maybe someone at the factory was bored with plain green?  ;D

Stan,

I have been using the Home Hardware paint and it seems to work well. I went for the John Deere Green. Don't know how it will handle the heay yet, but it is urethane based and should work ok on a Lister.

It would have to be Burgundy with yellow lining, or black with red or gold lining methinks. Not very original i know but i think it would look good in those colours.
