Changfa-style clones?

i have 3 of the changfoid s195's
they are made by some other name that escapes me just now.

they look on the outside to be a better finished engine, smoother castings, wiring connected, that goofy
headlight is better mounted
a far better written instruction manual that looks to have been written by an english speaking person
it also uses a laminated copper head gskt, which is different than that used by the genuine changfa which is
a steel cored fiber gkst.

haven't run the changfoid yet, but i expect it is as good as the genuine article.

Cognos, the guy near Ottawa is John and he has an awsome setup, that is if you can find his place.  He's off the grid and tries all sorts of experiments with his machines.  Most of which are the stuff we can only dream about trying.  I'd recommend a visit, just get him to give you instructions, or a gps reading or something.  The only way I could find it was because I had Andrew in the car with me.

I have an R-175A made by Jiang Dong.  It was a mess out of the factory shipping crate.  Dirty black foul smelling oil residue in the crankcase and lots of sand, the source of which turned out to be the pushrod galleries.  Sounds like what you expect from India.  Now that I have dealt with the issues I like the engine and it turned out the problems were a good way for me to learn the insides of this engine design since I had no prior experience with the Chinese horizontal singles.  I heard a horror story from one owner who reported the main crank bearings failed on his JD-175A in about 10 hours.  I can see how this may have occured in the design and have added a oil slinger to the lower rod bearing cap bolt.  This seems to get oil to a number of places that appeared to need some lubrication help.  I have about 200 hours on it now and am operating it with a full-flow 10 micron spin-on outboard hydraulic oil filter and a magnet in the sump which no longer grows fur.

most i have seen are bypass filtration, i can see how to do full flow on my 195, but am interested

Bob,

This was the subject of a post with pictures back when I did it a couple of year's ago.  It is only for the 175A engine, not suitable for your 195's.  My pictures are no longer available online due to a server SNAFU so none appear any more in my posts.  I need to deal with this someday.  That and a half million other things that I have let slide because my only focus has been on the VAWT for the past year.  That and keeping the kitty litter fresh and the cats fed.

I built an aluminum adapter that would fit where the original pleated paper filter went into the control panel front plate on the engine.  Then two copper lines went off to a remote filter housing where I installed a 10u hydraulic spin-on.  It only sees 12 PSI cold and about 2.5 PSI once all warmed up using straight SAE30.  There is hardly any restrictions in the engine oil path to build pressure following my filter.  One line sends oil to the rockers and another fires a solid bar jet of oil at the rotating crank where it gets caught for an instant each revolution by a rotating cup milled into the crank throw and forced centrifugally into the lower rod bearing like a pressure system through drilled crank.

thanks for the refresher, i remember now how you did it.

the 195 and 1115 can also have a full flow filter installed, it is just a much more complex project
requiring pretty much a teardown to make the alterations.

i just didn't remember how you did the 175
