ST Generator Dimensions
« on: April 07, 2006, 08:27:48 PM »
Having just orderred a ST-15, I am doing some layout on the frame.  I have yet to find a listing of dimensions on the generator.  Needed are mounting hole size and locations, overall sizes, etc.  Better yet would be a PDF file showing end, side and top view to go along with it.  I can drop that in an Autocad drawing.

Can anyone point me to a site that has this info?

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks.  That is exactly what I was looking for.  I did go to this site but must have missed that page.

FYI these generator heads are metric. They use the IEC (eroupean) standard frame system.

Just another note,
The chinese will change specs every 10 minutes if they can save a dime and the dealer will let them or wont notice.  It'd be best to check with your dealer and see if he can measure the actual unit for you.

This throws things into serious flux then Steve:

If the frame size is changing beyond an IEC standard they god only knows what you end up with.

Guys,

The ST is a generic Chinese alternator made by several factories.  The basic frame dimensions are very unlikely to change for the main castings. However the "dog house" that sits on top on rubber mountings  varies in size from different  manufacturers.

It can always be removed and replaced with safe western electrics and the rectifier mounted in a neat die-cat box. See Utterpower for one way of doing this.

Doug,
I do like to throw a wrench in the works every once and a while, but I've just bought too much stuff from China.  You probably wont see any big changes, but I had a supplier make a small change in the size of electrical panel on the generator such that the CSA breakers that I had been using for the previous batches would no longer fit.  Of course, they couldn't see the problem at the factory, and didn't anticipate anyone else would have any problems.  One manufacturer probably wouldn't change thier mounts if they have been making it for a while, but with doezens of different suppliers, they may have different generators all together.  I've even seen some ST heads avertised with SAE shafts.  I personally wouldn't get my drill bits out until I had the generator on hand.

I went looking for the 1972 IEC convention on motor frame sizes (scary I know the date eh? Things I remmeber in that alcoholic haze that was higher learning)

Found this not what I was looking for but a very good read as this also aplies to generators....

You think it would be easy to find this information now wouldn't you?

Any opinion on who has the best quality heads?
What needs to be considered?
