Lost wiring of generator - Please help!!
« on: December 14, 2008, 11:11:46 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of building a Lister CS genset for home use and acquired a generator for it, but as Murphy would have it, I lost the diagram I drew of the connection wiring inside the box before I refurbished it!
The following info is on the plate of the alternator:
Anderson Alternator Mnf (Johannesburg - South Africa) Someone told me its a "Hoffberg" type
Type: AC GEN
SerNo: LA365
Kw: 3
Phase: 1
PF: 8
Volts: 220 - 24
Amps:  13 - 5
RPM: 1500
Cycle: 50Hz

I "buzzed out" the wiring with a multi-meter and drew the following diagram to the best of my knowledge:

It seems to be quite different to the wiring of a genuine Start-o-Matic as there are only 2 wires ( A1 & A2) going to the DC brush-gear and the rest goes directly to the wiring box, not like the Star-o-Matic, which seems to have "internal" wiring.
My know-how stops here, so can someone who knows please tell me how to wire it to "start" on 24VDC and charge 5A at 24Vols DC. Obviosly the AC load, 220VAC also needs to work.

Thanks in advance,
