Unless 'someone' fished the piece out to remove evidence !!!

That's a possibility, but then, why leave the water in the sump as evidence?

Curious that Steve didn't mention the water, perhaps he could chip in at some time.

I would suggest people take a step back, suck in a load of oxygen, count to three and carry on.

English is a piss poor language of debate an humour in its written form, facial and vocal clues are missing so you also miss the context of what is said.  (ie is that a blade, a slam, humour, or a put down)

It would appear some have chosen to see the glass 1/2 empty and not 1/2 full.  Please review the ROE's before further action needs to be taken

Cheers

Hi Peter,

I did mention the water to Torsten and And had the oil and water in a drum in one of the pictures i sent him.    Not my place to post that on the forum though. And i guess Torsten wanted to investigate it before doing that. Of course we were both hoping it was just a gasket issue or something simple.

I have spoken to the seller 2 days ago and he has promised some form of compensation but as of today had still not emailed Torsten. I tried again to phone this evening but had no reply. i will continue to do all i can to get some kind of recompense  for my new friend in Denmark.

It is abundantly clear that this had not happened between it being sold and collected. Whether the seller was actually aware of its internal condition or not is unknown (he claimed he was unaware on the phone) he could have also been ripped off by the person who sold it to him as the seller is not a mechanical person at all.

We are obviously hoping for positive results but only time will tell on that one.

  Steve

Thanks, Steve:

Did the seller indicate how long he had owned the engine?

I am pretty sure the missing part is gone, since there is a fine mesh screen uner the crank.

Depending on where the cracked piece came out from, it is quite possible that it is sitting up on top of the camshaft (for example) or around the aperture for the governor gear. It could also be wedged between the crank webs and the crankcase.

Might be worth a good long look around with a small torch and see what you can make out in there. The block hasn't got a centre main like the CE or 12/2 but it is a fairly complex casting, with the camshaft and fuel pump drive fairly high up.

If it definitely isn't there, then someone knew about the crack and the water in the sump.

Been trying to sell it, lots of interest too, until they hear of the frost damage :-(

I think i have decided to dismantle  it and then decide what to do.

Might be worth looking for another block from a scrap engine, you have everything there to make it work.

If we all keep our eyes and ears open, something is bound to crop up.

I'll dismantle to repair, but if it is too bad in the inside, i'll sell the parts.
Well, if i find a new block soon i'll repair it.
