Few engines on the youtube I noticed some of them had repair patches over the cracked block especially if the break is just a hole.

That one I saw on your CD engine shouldn't be that bad as it's only on relatively flat surface where thick plate and screws/screws/even rivets can do that.

If it's a water jacket crack you can repair it with JB Weld.  Make a small groove following  the crack with a grinder, fill will JB Weld or suitable epoxy, let cure, sand , and paint.  I've had good luck with this method.  You can also weld them up with wire feed welder set on low, I've had good luck with that as well.

I agree with Ironworks.  JB Weld may not be rocket surgery or brain science but it often works in the most surprising challenges.  And veteran welders have been doing cast iron almost since electricity was discovered as well.  And that's the sequence I'd try.  $7.00 of JB Weld and then if that fails you fall back to either the master of wire feed or a really old master of the stick welder.  My limited experience with JB is that it doesn't have great strength in its self so if this crack is where it has to do some work then a bridge of similar metal between the two sides would be most advantageous ::).  I don't know if the instructions include washing liberally with brake cleaner but it can’t hurt.

Sometimes you’re lucky and sometimes you’ve got a great set of parts that will be really handy when the right block comes along.  I think we are now looking into the throat of the glaring problem of the CD.  They ain’t many.

The fact that threre are't many CD's made, is the main reason why i might try to repair.

It is just that the hole is located in the inside botton of the block.
In fact, there is missing a triangle between one corner and the sleeve :-(

Torsten,

Would it be possible to take a picture of the area and post it on this site?

It would be very interesting to see what you're dealing with.

Also will give other potential CD purchasers knowledge of where to look for possible damage.

Keep going at it!
