Well, if it uses a hopper cooling system which relies on evaporation and boiling of the water, I suggest temperatures of around 190f to 195f can be expected just below the hopper and around the cylinder head.

Mike, you might want to read my thread. There's a video of mine running in the posts. Both sound about the same at 1800
Might want to take the pan off & have a look?

Mine is currently filled with green antifreeze.  What impact will this have on the evaporative cooling?  Is it worthwhile setting up a conventional radiator for cooling?

Anyone have any feedback for me on the use of antifreeze in the hopper of a changfa engine?

From this website:
https://studybuff.com/does-ethylene-glycol-raise-boiling-point/

What happens to the boiling point of water when ethylene glycol is added?
BOILING & FREEZING POINTS Pure water, as you may know, has a boiling point of 212F (100C) and a freezing point of 32F (0C). However, when you create a 50/50 mixture using water and ethylene glycol, the boiling point rises to 223F (106C) and the freezing point lowers to -35F (-37C).

So, your boiling point is now 223F.  Too hot for a diesel in my opinion.
Switch to plain water so that the evaporative effect can cool the engine.

So these engines are unusable in cold climates?  Where I live it is below freezing this time of year.  Are there any other solutions out there that would allow this engine to be stored outdoors and used during winter?

Two choices, drain the water when its not being used or remove the hopper and make a plate and use a radiator which is how my stand by set is equipped. Evaporative cooling is no good for an engine that runs long hours unattended as it will consume lots of water. The plate is easy to make and install. If interested I can provide some pics and more information
