alternator diagram help
« on: November 01, 2008, 09:43:45 PM »
This is a very basic alternator diagram and am not clear on what it represents. Maybe someone has a few pointers. I understand the diodes in the picture as the arrow signs and the + and - at the top. I'm guessing 2 of the other wires may be field and stator. I'm guessing that the 3 wires coming out of the 3 black connected rectangles towards the bottom represent the 3 phases.
It may be too vague but maybe someone has a clue.
I'm trying to figure out what goes into the regulator.

Have a look at this book on our websites:

http://www.stationary-engine.co.uk/CAV-Electrical/AltBatt.htm

or at

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel/CAV-Electrical/AltBatt.htm

Gives the basics and a bit more on standard alternator setups and circuitry.
