Lister CS crank gear timing mark
« on: October 28, 2008, 11:29:30 AM »
Hi Everyone.
My cs 5/1 was badly seized at every possible place so during dismantling i was unable to put timing marks where needed. Now i'm getting ready to rebuild i find that neither the old or new crank have a timing mark on them. Can anybody help with a good picture or accurate way of describing where it might be. The cam gear and idler gear have timing marks.

I found this on Search under engine timing:

Thanks SteveU for the links however i was hoping to be able to assemble the crank and cam before the barrel/conrod/piston, and a close up pic of crank gear with mark on it would work wonders for me if anyone can help.

Looking at the end of the crankshaft, with the keyways at 12 O'clock, the tooth gap in the 12 O'clock position is the one to the right of the right-most of the two marked teeth.

I have just checked two crankshafts, a 6/1 and my own 10/2 and they are both the same, with a small variation in position.

The crankshafts from Lister don't have the pinions supplied separately, so if yours has been removed you need to retime it.

I have posted a picture here:

of the 10/2 crank gear. I should have marked the keyway centre as well, perhaps I'll pop back and do that and take the picture again:

The photographs are full-strength so you can blow them up on-screen.

Just a side note. Originals are timed at bottom dead centre and i believe oids are done at top dead centre. This is the timing marks iam talking about, not the spill timing.
