Which timing are you refering to, Valve or Injector?  If injector, search the forum for "Spill Timing" .  I think Hotater posted his excellent explanation/instructions here somewhere.
PS 6/1 - ST-5.

Sam
That is also available here with a search...  Try this thread.    http://listerengine.com/smf/index.php?topic=3774.0

It has been a while since I have done it on my 6/1.  If I recall correctly, with the piston at TDC and the idler gear in place and the camshaft removed, if you rotate the camshaft gear so the injector pump cam is pointing at the upper left stud that holds the injector pump end case on, and insert it so it's gear teeth mesh with the idler gear as close to pointing this direction as possible, you are there.  You of course want to confirm this with a dial gauge on the intake valve.  The intake should just start to open at 5 degrees BTDC, at least on a 6/1.  You never said what type engine you have.

Ron,

A Lister D is a 1 1/2 Hp water cooled petrol engine.  Probably millions made.  All sorts of variants, but all hopper cooled, I think.  Cheap, cheerful engine to start with.

Read the other post about the Lister A 3.5hp engine magneto timing, the D is similarly marked on the flywheel and the procedure is the same.
