converting a lister from air cooled to water cooled
« on: September 28, 2008, 09:19:21 AM »
Hi folks brand new here.
I have been looking at Lister cs engines and comparing prices between them and air cooled Listers, the air cooled listers appear much cheaper.
Would it be possible to modify a Lister Ld1 or other air cooled Listers to water cooled.  :P :-[
Its not just the prices its the availability of the air cooled variety that makes me ask this question.
What I would realy like is a 3.5hp Lister cs,I am actively looking and am sure that one will crop up eventually.
Thanks in advance peeps

Many earlier aircooled Listers were also made in watercooled marine versions, identified by the suffix W after the model ID letters, eg  ST-W etc. In some parts of the
world they are not uncommon, and are worth looking out for. Good luck with your search!
                                                                                                                            Regards, Combustor.
Toys include- Lister CS 8/1, Lister VA SOM plant and some Aussie engines.

Diesels love the heat. You are probably looking at big problems wanting to change a cooling system. What do you have in mind-are you looking at a heatpower project? The small air cooleds whir away at 1500 rpm +. Hold out for the real thing, you will be glad you did.  Paul.

Doh,  :P thanks Paul I didnt think about the rpm slower the better methinks.I am making biodiesel for use in my van and wifeys car so need some heat and while I'm at it might as well charge some batteries and use the electrons to run me telly in the evenings. So what I want is A Lister cs 3.5 hp diesel then?

There isn't a lot of heat to be had from a small 3.5 HP Lister CS.  Get a 6 HP, they are much more common and as a bonus you will be able to run a larger big screen telly someday.

what you could do is get copper brake pipe of a car and wrap it around the cooling fins dont no it may work could also get a pump on it
