Hertz is hurtin'
« on: September 14, 2008, 12:58:02 PM »
Fired up the beast today and things weren't so hot - 655 rpm on the engine but the st output was out of whack - 119 volts and 45 to 55 hertz

What would cause the wild, low hertz?

Any info, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Fred

What is it?

Most likely belt is slipping.  Why is another matter.

Belt or pully slippage, or your measuring device is out of order...
PS 6/1 - ST-5.

I agree with the others, bely slippage.    frequency (Hz) is always  directly connected to rpm.  for instance, a two pole machine must turn 3600 rpm to produce 60 hz, a 4 pole, 1800, a 6 pole, 1200 rpm.  dp
