Brian brings up a good question.  He, and all of us, deserve a reply.

David
[

Jeez peoplel!  Where did I go Wrong With That Question.

Is this a forum or not?

I stood up for Andrew in the past.  I'm disturbed at his response.

I have no idea how this forum exists.  Where's the money come from?

Andrew, if you volunteer your time, why?  Simply asking.

I'm not blaming you for the loss of Coppermine.  I was lamenting it!!!

Respectfuly,
David/quote]

Yes David I am tired of answering that question, from the same people, over and over in forum posts and emails... I have had more than a few

Why do I volunteer?  No idea, but it was needed to be done and I did it.  I put in time, the ADMIN provides the software, server, and bandwidth that we consume.

Why does the forum exist?  Don't know, ADMIN might want to share that, but I suppose it was to share knowledge of these great engines.  As the ADMIN does not have advertising on the site to help pay for it, and allows anyone to post items for sale and even allows a list of suppliers to be posted, I don't see any hidden motives

Where does the money come from?  That would be from ADMIN

So what about my replies dont you like David?
1.That I told you I have nothing to do with Coppermine, and detailed what ADMIN rights and duties I have?
2. that I explained how to set up  a picture site elsewhere?
3. That I outlined the Administrative problems you might face with bandwidth and user limits?
4. That I told you how the owner set things up?
5. that I offered to modify the link so that a new site could be linked?
6. Or was it the line about the pictures being eaten by the Internet and to suck it up and move on?

Nothing but porn and peoples mistakes lives forever on the internet.  I joined a site called HEAVY METAL it was a military site back in 1995, then one day the owner posted that in 30 days it would be gone..  so a few of use started Tanknet and moved there, and lost 4 years of collected knowledge.  get use to it, and copy of the stuff you really like :D  while its still there

I cant see why your upset with what I posted, I provided all the answers the membership asked for...what more could I possibly do?

... suck it up.  Guess that got to me.

You gave me a wonderful reply and I am sorry to have challenged you so.

I come from a business backround.  You are like a project manager.  You run the
jobsite, without alot of say about what materials or expertise is required.  It's just
get it done.

Whoever runs this Forum should have anticipated the "fall" of Copermine and backed it up.

I never bid a job if I did't have Plan B should a sub-contractor go "South on me".

A contractor says to me today  I'm right here you don't need to yell.
I said I know that but I'm hard of hearing I said.
So how does this help your hearing he asked?
It doesn't I said but it makes you take notice and look at me when you speak and I realy like to yell.......

My partner ( in the mine its prefered to work in pairs just incase something happens ) is training some new hires on surface. One asks how old he is and how long he's been working as an electrician in the mine. He tells them and one pipes up you look a lot older than that.....

Now Liver ( knick name ) is in good shape for a man his age and his hair flows in the wind ( mine doesn't now  ;D ) and the gray is just starting to take notice....

Me I'm a lot more gray and thinning, I'm also proud to say I have the thickest crop of back and ear hair in the dept but I'm 6 years Jr to Liver.

So back to the guys getting trained.
Another says you should see the guy with the beard he works with he REALY looks like hell lol.

This made Liver feel better about getting old ( His wife tells me she has three kids but only gave birth to two lol ).

AND a certain group of people can expect significant trouble and grief getting help from a certain older guy who looks like hell lol.

So in conclusion your only as old as you feel and the wife still likes the feel of me.
I also don't care what what I look and smell like ( the odor bit keeps the young ladies of the deap away I'm dead from the neck down so who cares  ).
And if I want to walk around with 12 days of growth on my face starting just bellow my lower eye lids and ending in an ambiguous region some place above my ankles I will because I am your electrician and you can't get by without me

Some people fear getting old, loosing the hearing needing the glasses ect.
I LOVE it because I can ignor people I don't want to listen too!
I don't read things I am not interested in.
I am starting to tell some realy cool staries abot back in the day!
I get to tell stories that don't go any place and mock people with no repercussions because I am an old guy on the steady day crew...
I get to yell even when I don't have too.
And even the ackes, pains and scars have good qualities, they remind me to work safely and they realy scare the hell out of the kids when I tell them a story about how we did it back in the day and why you should work safely and show them an old burn or explain an injury.

Getting older is cool with age comes wisdom and a liscence to get away with stuff 8)

Your only too worn out when you have lost the ability to think your way around a problem.
And I never cease to be amased by the old guys and their ability to solve a problem using tricks and techniques I have never seen and would not learn of they were not there.

Example:
How do you neatly cut and  strip the 1/4 of hard plastic insulation off a HV cable.
My way ( untill recently ) razor sharp knife and lots of cutting and pealing.
Easy way old guy saw threw it with a string off a tag and twist off the the plastic with pair of plyers

Hey I work some guys who are so old they need a pair of needle nose plyers to pull up the work boots at the start of the day.
Wrinkly guys with white big bellies and bald heads and hand that don't need work gloves because they have grown their own.

My favourite Boluga, a 300 pound mass of fat muscle and fur that resembles marine mammal more than a machine opperator with a giant heart of gold raising his grand daughter.

The old guy sleeping in the ist aid office who has packed all kinds of gutty works and severd limps in bandages and sent them office to hospital alive. Him I like and trust, ( the young attractive girl who freezes at the sight of blood is no use to me )

One guy with 51 years service amagine that he just kept working after 65 because he lied about his age to get the job and didn't want to stop!

Dirty tricks that get the job done learned the hard way ect.

I envy the Realy Old guys, I'm just a midle of the road of life guy the realy old guys are the impressive ones.
You never wear out the important bits in head unless you give up using them.

doug/just realized.. I do not know anyone who can hear/get 3-4 of us together and we are all talking about different subjects and no one realize it/as for new trainees..at our co. what do you call the person that has been there 20 years... the new guy/average length of time with the co, is 30-40 years//in a few years // we are going to be in trouble//not too many people are dumb enough to start a career that involves work/// after I retired i lost my work partner to cancer// you have to be careful when you mention you have a partner// they think you are married to him//I gained another reireee as a work partner.. toook 2 years for us to get along/ we traveled all over the south but the first year it was tough to get along/ after about 2 years we finally reached an understading//he is what we call a YANKEE and I am a southern redneck/ now we can go on the road for 4-5 weeks and never have a problem and that is hard to do when you spend up to 18 hours a day together.I sure would hate to take on another work partner///sid

We are in the same possition now too .

We have the old guy buldge 1/3 over retirement age.
The workforce renewal guy like me hired to fill gaps when times were tough...
And now we are training new kids again that don't realy know anything and in many cases never had to strugle to get anyplace so they don;t understand the value of work.
Some still live at home with mom and dad( can you believe it ).
If the old guys retire on mass we are screwed ( like say a strike ). Not enough of us gap fillers to carry the weight and the new kids will need at least 5 to 10 years of  experience before they start get good and work smart

The term partner could cause some funny looks I guess lol.
I can't go back to working alone as shift guy again.
When I work alone I get grumpy.
Two guys who work well together and have fun are more productive than 2 guys working alone and you don't get hurt because of stupid things like I tried to lift it myself or the oops factor because you didn;t have that secodn set of eyes watching out for you.

My partner will be moving on to a job more in keeping with his senority soon.
This bothers me since I will be the senior man in the deap ( not a badge of honour ) and the thought of some of these jack asses they hired as a partner who know everything and are the saviour of the mine and are going to show me up doesnt sit well.

Sorry Suck it up is Army Slang.. when shit hits the fan, you suck it up, and move on... it means you cant change anything so make the best of the situation

I agree about Coppermine, but neither the owner of this site, nor I have Admin rights to the site, so backups can not be done by us.  This software does not support its own gallery, so using a freebie website was the best alternate.

I am a PM in real life, totally agree, Im a get it done kind of guy with what ever crap I have at hand.

The owner of this site pays for the server, the software, and the bandwidth we use, I guess approx 40-50 per month from a commercial supplier... he may be doing it for less... don't know, don't ask... and he is a big boy if he wants you to know who he is and ask for donnations in the future, that is up to him.  I ADMIN on another site, so have some idea how to run these things, and offered to help him.. he accepted my offer... and I did thread moderation... then got ADMIN rights to help fight the spam.... but that is for this site only.

one more time just so everyone knows

The Owner of this site and I do not have ADMINISTRATOR rights over COPPERMINE, and site owned by others  :D

There, hopefully that clears up any remaining questions

Many years ago, a colleague of mine showed me how she "captured" an entire site off the internet, lock stock and barrel.  She used in in her computer lab so the students didn't have to have access to the internet in order to access it, just to the local network.  Like a dope, I didn't write down how to do it.  ???

Does anybody know how to do this?  Could it be done by lowly peeons like me to "capture" this site and preserve it for future reference just in case TSHTF?  :'(
