valve seat installation on Petteroid, is there room?
« on: April 13, 2008, 05:16:25 AM »
After eyeballing the space between the valves on the Petteroid head. Is there room for just one hardened valve seat for the exhaust and run the intake on the bare casting? Or is the solution to sunk valve seats is just cut fresh seats and plane the head to "raise" the seats? This one's down 84 thou on the exhaust.

Harden the seat and you will need a stellite valve ( probadly scavange it from a GM 3.8 V6 ).

If it ran before just let it go as is for now.

If you modify it and screw it up I have a spare....

noticed something else, rocker oil line is missing
« Reply #2 on: April 18, 2008, 04:59:51 AM »
I wondered why the rocker arms and shaft were so worn & sloppy. Then wondered how the previous owner must have been just opening the cover and giving a couple of squirts of oil. How could that be enough along with some oil mist? Well looking at my new CD version of the factory manuals. It appears the previous owner/tinkerer got rid of the oiling line up to the rocker shaft!!!
Next task is to find out how and why a hex headed bolt is threaded into where it appears the rocker shaft oil line should be???
