Thats life...

Brand new CAT 50 ton dump truck where I work clocked in at 2000 hours and needed liners.
There was some very suspscios pitting in the turbo but oil showed no contamination durring services .

I think its just a case of lighter faster shorter service life....

I'm picking up a Volvo MD-2B engine tomorrow. It's free and it runs... supposedly. This engine is rated at 25hp. Can an engine like this run at say 1000 rpm efficiently and still have enough oil pressure? I'm thinking slow speed here. What do you guys think?

As long as the oil pressurized bearing clearances aren't way wide open from wear it ought to be possible to adjust the oil pump to output higher pressure at lower RPM by either factory supplied adjustment for this as my Petter has or by placing spacer, shimming up the spring tension in the bypass valve in the oil pump (if it has one).  If you do this watch the pressure with a gauge and keep the RPM's in the new lower regieme or else you may burst something (like a spin-on oil filter cartridge housing) from excessive oil pressure if the engine races unintentionally.

Alway best to find out what the sugested cruising RPM is. Then your running it at the best speed for fuel ecconomy and power

Doug is right.  I got so wrapped up in the oil pressure question I lost sight of the big picture.

Doug and Rcavictim-   I think cruising rpm is around 1800. Max rpm is  2200-2500 I think. I'm finding it difficult to identify this engine since I was told it could be a md2 or md2a or even an md11. There's no ID # on the engine, maybe you guys know better.
Since this engine has water-cooled exhaust does it make it marine use only? Stupid question maybe but worth finding an answer to before I dig in deeper. I doesn't make sense to send this exhaust/coolant cocktail into a radiator and then back in.

4x4_Welder I didn't mean to hijack your thread, but we seem to have questions about similar engines.

I believe you can just use a regular exhaust but no harm in watching things close at first.

1500 rpm might be a little smoother and quieter but 1800 gives you a direct drive option
