12/2 one cylinder slobbers under light loads
« on: February 28, 2006, 04:26:36 AM »
12/2 with approx 100 hrs works great under all loads above 2kw below the right cyl slobbers oil. The cyl's are balanced with digital therm. there is very little oil consumption. I have run both diesel and meneral oil, both burn clean, with very little smoke.  Compression seems good.195 degree thermostats in each cyl.. Any ideas before I tear it down. The engine runs very smooth.

With just 100 hours it is likely that the rings are not seated properly yet - it can take some time especially if you have been running mainly light loads.  The engine can handle loads of up to 8 plus kw, so you may need to add some resistance to make it work harder.  What you see occasionally is an engine that is run under light load conditions for some time results in the rings getting stuck and won't seat correctly.  Try running it under heavy loads for an extended period, it souds like it will solve itself.

Thanks, been running at a average of 6 kw, up to as high as 8.5. Handles everything very nicely,no smoke (unlike my 14/1) the range in hz is 3 from top power to bottom load.  I run a little longer. By the way nice legs Hotator ! thought I was looking at the playboy sight.

Me?  Legs?  Hmmm.  Listerheads are sometimes strange, occasionally weird, rarely kinky, but always entertaining.

On ring seating.

I just changed rings and its' taken more than 50 hours of about 30% load to seat the rings.  Give it time or give it a lot to do to stop slobbering.
7200 hrs on 6-1/5Kw, FuKing Listeroid,
Currently running PS-Kit 6-1/5Kw...and some MPs and Chanfas and diesel snowplows and trucks and stuff.
