It says lister 3/1, but it looks like a 6/1. The only picture I've seen of a 3/1 was when it was taken appart, so I don't know. Very cool and thanks for the videos! ;D

How did you run an underground hot water line?  I've been thinking about this but I'm not sure if it will be worthwhile for the losses I'd have.  Did you buy foam insulated PVC or some such?

This is extremely cool, you are squeezing maximum use out of every drop of fuel.
Thank you for showing this to us.

Nice installation but it must be noisy in there with those hard walls.  What do you hear outside?  Any ground-thumping, or just the exhaust note?

Hi to the group!

The underground pipework is 10mm Microbore copper tubing laged with foam insulated tube to suit.

The noise is nothing to bother anyone at all, just a low hum and exhaust chug, sounds really nice!

Trying to squeeze everything I can from the Lister ;-)

I saw this product or something like it on "This Old House"

http://www.pinnaclesupplyhouse.com/levelOne.cfm?catID=150&parentcatID=14

It's used for remote chillers, and by the "outdoor waterstove" folks as well.  Lets you run water both ways in insulated and waterproof housing.
Unfortunately it's not cheap.  (no financial interest blah blah)

Homebrew---

It looks like a LOT of lash in the exhaust valve and no lube.  What's the Lister call for as valve lash?
Neat set-up.
7200 hrs on 6-1/5Kw, FuKing Listeroid,
Currently running PS-Kit 6-1/5Kw...and some MPs and Chanfas and diesel snowplows and trucks and stuff.

"I saw this product or something like it on "This Old House"

Warning- This pinnaclesupplyhouse outfit has a lot of misleading info on their website.  Reflective insulation is great, but all the equivalent R figures listed are using a sealed, trapped air space included but not explained as such. You could have gotten almost the same result with a foil building paper/foil plastic sheet material at a fraction of the cost. The sub slab insulation listed is compared to 1" blueboard but no R value is listed-  it's likely R1 instead of the R7 of 1" blue board (extruded, cosed cell  polystyrene).  I like and use radient barrier type products, but most marketing outfits are full of baloney.

The time saver pipe is a great idea, but the R14 figure listed is highly suspect to me.

You're right, and this isn't the stuff I thought it was.  The product I've read about is called ThermoPex, and it uses two runs of pex, surrounded by closed cell polyurethane, encased in  a polyethylene jacket. Google it and you'll find a lot of info.

Thanks rgroves, I'll check out Thermopex.  I'm going to need something like that for my off grid home.
Best Wishes.

Bruce,

From my experience I would recomend the insulated PVC pipe that you run PEX inside, it has lots of different makers.  I have used this and a product similar to the website that you posted on two different outdoor wood boilers that I have installed.  The boiler that has the inulated pex lines, the snow will gradually melt. But the one that I used the insulated PVC on, the snow never melts away till spring.
