Advice on Dacheng ST heads
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:23:05 PM »
After running one of these head for a few hours I started to pick up a howl in a bearing. I disassembled the head and while the bearing looked to "descent" quality, the stuff(kinda like grease) they put in there was more like wax than grease.   Cleaned and repacked with synthetic gease and all seems well.

Just a word of warning if you plan to use on of these for emergency use.

Might have been yak tallow mixed with casting sand.  found quite a bit of both inside my ST15.  Put in new sealed bearings and cleaned and painted the interior with glyptal.  So far, just a few hours, smooth and quiet.

Good luck,
Zeke

I was surprised to not find any sand in it.  But I paid my "sand dues" in the engine, only to find latter that i didn't check the fuel tank :-[
This glyptal stuff where is it acquired?  Need to do that and make a new piece for the brush holders to mount to, I don't like how much brush is hanging out between the holder and commutator.

Found the glyptal on ebay.  Great stuff, if a little pricy.
