Hold on to your Hatz Northern Tool. I`ll buy Chinese!
« on: September 22, 2007, 05:23:29 AM »
Not so slow, these are like the 3600 RPM Yanmars and clones but yoikz, look at the prices.   :o   See also how you can spend almost five grand on a B&S engine.  Well certainly won`t be me.

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/NTESearch?storeId=6970&in_dym=1&Nty=1&D=than&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=0&Ntk=All&Ntt=diesel%20engines%20small&cmnosearch=true&cm_ven=PPC&cm_cat=Yahoo!%20New%20Sponsored%20Search&cm_pla=nt_engines&cm_ite=diesel%20engine%20small&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=5136118022&OVKEY=small%20diesel%20engine&OVKWID=44256378022&OVRAW=Small%20Diesel%20Engine

Boy, those Chinese horizontal water cooled engines like Changfa sure look like a bargoon don`t they!?  Personally I think that sweet deal is going to disappear with all the other good deals from China when they adjust their currency to meet the wishes of the rest of the world.  With the Canadiian dollar at a healthy high, now on par with the US buck, it is time for us poor, financially struggling Canadian DIY`ers to buy the engines and tools we need from China.

Princess Auto in Canada has been importing a very impressive and attractively priced lineup of tools and shop related equipment for quite some tiime now.  I have seen the quality really improve in recent years.  I can only imagine what may be showing up on their shelves soon with the latest jump in our currency.

Now if only the Chinese engine factories would start making a Lister 6/1 CS clone!!!!!!!

Could run it at 1800rpm, couple it to an ST5, and have a good machine.  Prob make 3 or 3 1/2 KW and run forever.  And could even get parts for it!.

That is a sweet package.  Basically 1/2 of a 1.5 litre 1980 Rabbit VW engine.  Weighs just 200 lbs.  Indirect injection, with electric starter and water pump, glow plugs, radiator included.  Would be perfect for a garden tractor retrofit, APU for a big highway tractor, etc.  At 1800 RPM (1/2 speed) it could indeed last a very long service life in a stationary generator and I`ll bet it is quiet too.

SAE bellhousing makes it easy to hook to those stupid alternators that are mostly useless to DIYer`s because they only have a bearing at one end!   >:(.

Wanna build a diesel/electric hybrid compact car anyone?

Now if I only had some money.

//////I started collecting tools, engines etc about 25 years ago/when I started I probably had $100.00/25 years later I still have that amount plus more junk than i could move, repair or give away/ the point is , you are going to spend your money on something, might as well be something you enjoy// at one time it was going to several girls friends and a waffle house waitress./but as you age,the waffle house waitress gets worse looking and the sound of a diesel or an ole hit an miss sound better/besides they sound better when they talk and you can alway shut one off/ the object is leave just enought to put you under  and have a good  party//sid

Sigh, I had to unload most of my collection when we sold the ranch in '01. Some was moved to the new ranch and I just acquired a '70 International 1200 service truck for free that has restored my standing by about 2.5 tons.  ;D The big problem with keeping my scrap numbers up is that most of the stuff runs, so it can't possibly be considered scrap iron.  ::)

Rcavictim, I agree with you on those engines. Way too expensive :o! Someone likes them though as 11 of the 10 hp electric start models (#60111) have been sold in the last three months. Wonder how I know :-X.

I would like to see the price of the small air cooled diesels come down so they will gain more users. It is hard to justify paying up to two thousand dollars for diesel when Clone Honda Chinese gassers are less than two hundred bucks.

Really interesting thread here!
My question though, if I run a diesel that was designed for 3600RPM at 1800RPM and load it properly will it be likely to wet stack or will other more important concerns exist?
Seems to me that the load will prevent wet stacking, but valve timing, injection timing, etc might create problems that are way over my head.
Would only half rated RPM also indicate only half fuel consumption or is this question too vague or unanswerable because of not having specific engine information?
