"The market for stationary engines was totally destroyed (here) when they started setting stationary power poles!!!  Idaho power will run power four miles to irrigation pumps free of charge, with a five year contract.  (They want $273,000 just for the lines into here.)"

In our area PG&E charged my son-in-law 18K for 900 feet! He paid it. Dumb.

We have no interest in commercial power, 2 1/2 miles away...

And yes, divorce is a bargan, isn't it? Pricey but a bargan too.
if ya don't ask permission they can't deny it...

Hello, newby here piping in... this thread has been very interesting.  I just wanted to tell you why the lister attracted me.  When a hurricane comes our way, everyone grabs all their gas cans, jugs, everything that will hold gas, and run to the gas station. Then the people further south evacuate stopping here and filling their cars up. Two days before the hurricane gets here all our stations are out of gas...but not diesel. While sitting in a long line before hurricane wilma I noticed the diesel pump didn't have a line.  I said to myself...I'm getting a diesel generator.  I have a gasoline welder/generator with a 16hp gas guzzler...45 min. per gallon.  Looking into diesel generators I stumbled upon a man who set up a 12/2 with a 12kw ST head and he was get an average of 3 hours per gallon of diesel...I thought WOW.  These heavy duty engines last for years and are very efficient.  I finally found someone who had 2 ST1'2 for sale and I bought them with generators for 200 American dollars.  I cain't wait to get them up and running.  The thought of being able to start one and run it until the grid comes back up, which could be as much as 3 weeks, is great.  Especially when you are STILL married and have to keep the Mrs. happy.  When momma's not happy...well you know the rest.  And when I read that they can be ran off WMO I got real excited.  I have access to plenty of that and the shelf life is unlimited.  And last and certainly not least...they will make a great conversational piece when people come to visit.

Now there's a thought, hook the fuel inlet to the crankcase overflow, and just drizzle fresh oil into the upper lube galleys, and as it drains down, you get fresh oil everywhere, and then you pump it into the combustion chamber via a good filter.

If you are prepared to purchase new lube oil to use as fuel then this is a terrific idea!  As a bonus, the oil will be hot as it goes to the IP.
