Since I saw your other question about trying to identify this engine, is it a Lister or Listeroid?  I think all the original Listers have "Dursley England' stamped on them somewhere or cast into the crankcase access hatch.  Does it have sleeve bearings or Tapered Roller Bearings? I am not sure about end play for sleeve bearings on an original lister(not sure what they would use for thrust?).  If it is a Listeroid with Tapered Roller Bearings, you should have .003-.005" of crankshaft endplay.

PS 6/1 - ST-5.

Hello Ron
Yes it has got  Dursley England on the crankcase access hatch but I do not know wether it has tapered or sleeve bearings I have not stripped it down it seems run ok a part from the end play.

Neil,
Mr Lister says the end float is .005 - .010" . If yours was made in Dursley it has sleeve bearings. The TRB's are an Indian option. Both are adjusted by adding or removing gaskets under the housing. I wouldn't worry too much if  your end float is a bit over spec, it is a Lister after all !  :D ( did I really put that in writing??? ;D ;D )

Ron,
The sleeves have an enlarged end face that runs against the crank to take thrust (looks a bit like the big end bearing) I don't think they were designed for much end thrust. Anyone ever seen an automotive style clutch on a CS?

Cheers,
Brian
